KWB was recently among the winners of the first ever Saudi Arabia Technical Vocational Educational Training Innovation Award held in Jeddah in a competition against worldwide colleges, universities and training providers.
Director TLA TeleLearn-Akademie
Working in a consortium together with TLA TeleLearn-Akademie and partners from the renowned Hamburg Center of Aviation and Training, KWB submitted a proposal to run a Technical College of Excellence in Saudi Arabia under the "Expanding and Improving Technical and Vocational Education and Training in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia Wave 2 Project", which will add 26 autonomous colleges structured in 11 clusters across the country.
All providers who submitted a successful reference of interest were also invited to take part in the first TVET Excellence Lab for Innovation in Jeddah, hosted 7-8 October 2013 by Colleges of Excellence, seeking for the best ideas to improve the delivery of vocational training in KSA.
KWB’s innovative contribution was based on a holistic concept, combining top level training for female college graduates with career counseling, mentoring and placement. In the subsequent lab session the KWB team aligned the German approach to the Saudi Arabian context together with delegates from the Ministry of Labor, the HRDF, Colleges of Excellence, Saudi employers and the Worldbank. The program has been developed under the auspices of the Federal German Ministry of Family, Senior Citizens, Women and Youth and won the UN WOMEN Public Sector Award.
Dr. Susanne Dreas, who presented the idea in Jeddah, said "We are thrilled that our approach to enabling successful employment for female graduates was greatly acknowledged. Taking part in the first ever TVET Excellence Lab gave us the amazing opportunity to discuss and share our expertise with global training providers from countries including Europe, Australia, Canada, Singapore and the USA.
KWB is hopeful to take this idea forward to implement the cross sectional training and placement program in Saudia Arabia as part of the Colleges of Excellence strategy.
